The 15th Battle of the Oldies for the Mayor’s Cup between the Old Boys of St. Xavier’s College and Gamini National College was held last Saturday at the Race Course Grounds. The event was attended by a large crowd of cricket fans and holidaymakers.
The Assistant Parish Priest of St. Xavier’s Church, Rev. Fr. Stephen, served as the Chief Guest. Other distinguished guests included the Principals of both colleges, local officials, and representatives from various alumni associations. A special cake-cutting ceremony was held on the pitch to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Gamini National College.

Gamini Past Pupils’ Association (PPA) won the toss and elected to bat first, scoring 229 runs (all out) in 32 overs.
- Senila Sanika: 78 runs

Old Xaverians were restricted to 206 runs in 31 overs in their reply.

Highlights & Significance
Dr. T.B. Jeganathan, Secretary of the St. Xavier’s OBA, noted that this fixture is the longest continuous hard-ball cricket encounter in the Hill Country and the only uninterrupted annual fixture between two Old Boys’ teams in Sri Lanka. The event aims to promote sportsmanship and help revive education in Nuwara Eliya.
